How to Use Your Gemini API Key in PC Builder: MW

Last Updated: June 30, 2026

Already created a Gemini API key in Google AI Studio? This page shows the five steps to paste it into PC Builder: MW, save the settings, run Fill with AI on your Compatibility page, and verify the auto-generated tags. If you haven't created a key yet, follow the Gemini API Key Setup guide first.

1

Open PC Builder: MW Settings

In your Shopify admin, go toApps → PC Builder: MW and click the Settings tab in the app sidebar.

The Settings page is where all app-wide configuration lives — AI Configuration, email notifications, Gemini integration, and feature requests. The AI Configuration section is what we need for connecting your Gemini key.

2

Enable "Fill with AI" and paste your key

Toggle on theFill with AI switch. A text field appears below it — paste the Gemini API key you copied from Google AI Studio into that field.

The key is sent encrypted to PC Builder: MW's servers and stored encrypted at rest. It's only decrypted in-memory when the app makes an API call to Gemini on your behalf. It is never exposed to your storefront JavaScript, never logged, and never sent to any third party.

3

Save your settings

Click theSave button at the top-right of the Settings page to store the key.

Once saved, AI Fill becomes available across all your widgets. You can swap the key out anytime by editing this same field — for example, when rotating keys for security or moving to a higher-quota Google Cloud project.

4

Run Fill with AI on the Compatibility page

Open any widget, click into a step, and clickFill with AI on the Compatibility page. Select the products you want to auto-fill, then confirm.

The app uses your Gemini key to look up each product and auto-populate compatibility tags (cpu_brand, cpu_socket, cpu_generation, cpu_tdp_watt, and so on). For large catalogs the AI pass can take a few minutes — leave the tab open. A progress indicator shows how many products are done.

Processing time scales with catalog size
5

Verify the AI-generated data

Once the AI pass finishes, scan the Compatibility table and spot-check a few rows for accuracy.

Gemini is highly accurate for popular CPUs, GPUs, and motherboards, but rare or newly-released SKUs may need manual correction. Click any cell to edit it directly, or use the CSV export-import workflow for bulk fixes. After verifying, your storefront builder will start enforcing compatibility automatically — incompatible parts get hidden in real time as customers build.

💡 Prefer not to use AI?

You can skip AI entirely and set up compatibility manually or in bulk via CSV. Both methods produce the same end result — AI just saves you the typing.
